Still Life

Here is an example of a Still Life by Bailey, it's complicated but simple. How does your composition compare?

  1. I really enjoy this painting. From the color pallet to the composition. I wish i had seen this before i did mine, it is different from what you normally see as a still life. I feel like it also has a story behind it, which makes it even more intriguing.

  2. This painting is very creative. My eye wanders through all the eggs. Ive had a fun time trying to see how many triangles I can make. I feel this painting allows the viewer to guess what may happen next. Was this possibly done right before a big family breakfast? Or maybe the vase will fall over and more eggs will roll out. This has a great use of shape, space and color. Much different than what I was able to produce from my own still life.

  3. I want there to be faces on the little eggs... then it would be like an egg social. Though seriously, the otherwise mundane nature of the individual objects, when combined give a subtly quirky feel to the painting. Or I just really want to see an egg social happen.

  4. If faces were on the eggs, I'd be reminded of this http://nocturnalmoth.deviantart.com/art/Enjoy-your-breakfast-77445089 As far as how I think mine compares to this painting, I'd say this one has a lot of simple shapes but everything looks very real, whereas mine has some complex shapes and not quite realistic. Also mine doesn't tell a story like this does.

  5. Hmmm... well as compared to mine, it is much cleaner and it has much more realistic colors, where mine has pretty much the pure colors without anything else mixed in. Also, mine is basically a random assortment of objects (other than the firewire, I knew i wanted that).

  6. It's curious how this composition is visually interesting and rich because of the many eggs and the various placements...yet it feels very stable and deliberate. I wonder if it's the even lighting...
