Earth Works

Just in case you were feeling inspired and wanted to go for an "A", here are some rather good examples of Earth Works. They may be on a slightly grander scale than you may attempt, yet one never knows.

  1. I love Robert Smithson's work, I watched a video on him in high school and have been intrigued ever since. His free flowing forms are quite amazing.

  3. i don't know if i could get as big as say stone henge, but i like the idea of making something you might need a small plane to look on. I'll have to consult my property's zoning laws and go from there!

  5. I understand this is seen as art, and it is an interesting concept, but I don't find it really amazing by any means. I would like to know how it was made, by using large machines or did the artist actaully have a hand in making it? I have been trying to find information on it without much luck. So far It has prevented oil from being drilled in utahs great salt lake though - so i guess a benefit has come out of it.

  6. I like the 2nd picture, the ground seems natural,The different textures used as the path centers away from the water is nice, as if there was little editing to the picture I want to draw like that

  7. Julia B - it is art. It is real Cadillacs that are planted into the earth. Against the west Texas sky - it is a sight to behold and a place to visit. People get out there with spray paint cans and paint their form of art on the Cadillacs. It is an multi-millionaires way of showing the world that he can spend his money any way he chooses - and a statement that a Cadillac is a waste of money. You should see how the vehicles are decorated that he and his staff drive. There are other forms are his art in this area - some appealing and pleasing to the eye but some that are an eyesore.

  8. Would to suggest that the first may take influence from the statues on Easter Island?
I agree with Julia on how I view the second piece. It seems like something I would have made as a kid when I was bored, yet on a grander scale.
